APPLICATION OF TRAUMA INFORMED TECHNIQUES & STRATEGIES
This one-day, interactive, online training course is aimed at coaches, counsellors and mental health practitioners working with people impacted by trauma.
Participants will be introduced to common terminology related to trauma-informed practices and to factors affecting how traumatic events impact individuals, families, and communities differently.
The training will explore key principles for delivering trauma-informed services and practical, accessible strategies to integrate within support sessions.
Participants will also be encouraged to develop personalised self-care plans from a trauma-informed perspective.
This course is based on contemporary, evidence-based research from the fields of applied neuroscience and somatic/embodied practices.
By the end of this 1-day training course, participants will be able to:
- Define the range of key terminology commonly used in relation to trauma and trauma-informed practices
- Describe why individuals, families and communities often respond very differently than others after being exposed to similar traumatic experiences
- Outline the key concepts and principles for delivering trauma-informed services
- Summarise how the limbic system and autonomic nervous system are affected by traumatic experience
- Explain the relevance of Polyvagal Nerve Theory when working with the impact of trauma
- Identify at least 5 trauma informed strategies or techniques that can be integrated within therapeutic services
- Formulate trauma-informed personalised self-care plans that help develop emotional resilience
