PRINCIPLES & STRATEGIES FOR DELIVERING TRAUMA AWARE SERVICES

This interactive workshop will help coaches, counsellors and mental health practitioners develop a trauma informed approach in their work with clients.

The workshop introduces contemporary research in the fields of applied neuroscience and somatic/embodied practices.

Based on this research, a range of practical principles and strategies for implementing trauma informed approaches will be presented. This is combined with insights into how more traditional ‘eastern’ philosophies can also be integrated into these approaches.

Delegates will be invited to discuss their learning throughout, with a view to applying it immediately within their own settings.

By the end of this 3-hour workshop, participants will be able to:

1. List and explain the range of terminology and definitions commonly used in relation to trauma and trauma informed practices
2. Summarise what happens in the brain (limbic system) and body (autonomic nervous system) as a result of traumatic experiences
3. Describe why individuals often respond very differently after being exposed to similar traumatic experiences
4. Identify behaviours and responses that might suggest a client has experienced trauma, with or without conscious memory
5. Outline at least 5 trauma informed interventions that can be applied immediately with a range of clients
6. Illustrate how traditional ‘eastern’ philosophies can be combined with contemporary research findings to create lasting positive change with clients
