Men’s Mental Health Workshop

BOOK TODAY TO RESERVE YOUR PLACE.

Get involved in honest and respectful discussions about the emotional struggles many men face everyday, but that can’t easily be talked about with family, friends, colleagues or wider communities.

This series is for anyone who wants to get involved in the discussion about how modern men can feel excluded from mainstream approaches to taking care of their emotional health and wellbeing. This is not a ‘therapy’ group, but there will be personal benefits of simply coming along and taking part.

It is aimed specifically at men, but anyone is welcome on the understanding it is a safe and confidential space for men to talk openly and without judgement. There is a distinctly different stigma attached to conversations about men’s mental health, so these workshops will keep that in mind.

The first evening will touch on a number of topics related to positive mental wellbeing from a man’s perspective, including the many unique challenges men face. By agreement, the follow up workshops will look at some of these topics in detail as well as exploring practical and immediate solutions.

As a female, I have witnessed first hand the potentially destructive nature of the stories some men are ‘given’ about their place in modern society and about the ‘expected’ responses to mental ill health. As a mental health practitioner, I have supported hundreds of men of all ages who have struggled in a world where they feel unable to speak openly about their vulnerabilities. These evenings will encourage supportive conversations and will look at ideas that work for men to get the right help when they need it.

This series will apply the principles and stages of Kintsugi repair as a metaphor for dealing with the tough challenges of life. Kintsugi, literally translated as ‘golden joinery’, is the ancient Japanese are of repairing precious pieces of broken pottery with gold, giving it a uniquely visible repair and making it stronger.

You will be in a safe, supportive, non-judgemental environment where your privacy will be fully respected.
